Our History

Pastors in Southwest Atlanta in 1986 envisioned the development of a Christian Emergency Center for the Adamsville, Ben Hill and Cascade area.  With the aid of the Christian Emergency Help Centers, directed by Sister Marie Sullivan, their vision became a reality in 1988 with the opening of Southwest Emergency Assistance Center (SWEEAC) on the third floor of St. Mark A.M.E. Church.  The purpose of SWEEAC was "to provide food, clothing, counseling, and eventually financial assistance to the citizens in the identified communities who found themselves in crisis situations."  The formation of SWEEAC was also due in large part to the untiring work of Pastors Thomas Walters, David Wallace and Frances Bryant, the first Director of SWEEAC.  In 1989, Vivian Moreland became the Center's Director and led the organization to its incorporation.  Today, twelve churches support the daily operation of the organization with assistance from donations and volunteers.
