| PROGRAMS & SERVICES SWEEAC, Inc. provides emergency assistance for clients of Southwest Atlanta facing crisis. We encourage these families to seek ways to strengthen themselves physically, mentally and spiritually with the goal of returning into the mainstream of society. To this end, our objective is to provide services in four areas of critical need: (1) Life Skills Enhancement, (2) Anti-Hunger, (3) Children-at-Risk, and (4) Dress for Success. To fulfill our purpose and meet our objectives, we are providing: (1) Life Style Changing programs which include: employment resources, job related transportation, personal money management, home management, access to computers and Social Services resources in partnership with DFACS and Georgia Healthy Families; (2) Anti-Hunger activities which include a food pantry which is stocked with purchases made from the Atlanta Community Food Bank through the auspices of the Food Bank itself, donations made by local grocery stores and donations from the partner churches in our community of faith; (3) Provisions are made for Children-at-Risk through educational activities for children in our Kid's Korner, Back to School program, "Betcha Can't Read Just Three" reading program and toys, bikes and gift cards are distributed to children during our Christmas event; (4) Being successful at work and school is facilitated through the Dress for Success clothes closet maintained by SWEEAC which includes clothes and accessories for men, women, children and youth. Food Pantry - Our Food Pantry is one of our greatest demands at the Center. Food donated from food drives and The Atlanta Community Food Bank help to serve over 1000 families in a given year. That represents over 12,000 people who are referred and served. Career Center- Clients are offered job information, staffing agency assistance, career counseling, resume preparation and referrals for continued education. Clothing Closet - Clothes are donated to our closets from local vendors and the community at large. Clothing is provided free of charge and available for infants, toddlers, children, men and women. The clothing closets are manned by volunteers from our partner churches and from the community. Volunteers sort, size and display clothes and accessories that are donated and assist clients in selecting the clothes they need. Glasses and Hearing Program - Free glasses and hearing aids are now available through The Lion's Club Outreach Program. A screening process is required. Disaster Relief - Efforts to provide immediate assistance to those affected by nature related disasters are in place at SWEEAC. Referral information is on hand to Red Cross, FEMA, DFACS, and The Department of Labor. Back to School Supplies - Supplies such as books, book bags, notebooks, crayons, paper, pens and pencils are furnished to school age children during our annual Back To School Event. Food Stamps Applicant Outreach - Partnership with Georgia Healthy Families and The Atlanta Community Food Bank allows clients to begin food stamps counseling and apply for stamps online at the SWEEAC office. Counselors are on site to begin the initial food stamps process. Thanksgiving and Christmas Assistance - Special food boxes with hams or turkeys are provided during our holiday distribution events and toys, bikes and gift cards for children and teens are provided through Toys For Tots, our partner churches and community organizations. Referrals - United Way provides referral information through 211 and volunteer opportunities through their Volunteer Solutions program. "Betcha Can't Read Just Three" Reading Program - Children grades K-12 can particpate in our reading program. In partnership with The Books For Miles Foundation, a mobile unit commited to help spread literacy throughout the Atlanta area, new books are provided and certificates awarded at the end of the program. | COMING 2009 Life Skills Enhancement SPARC sponsored Health Screenings New location for Career Center |
